ESR Project 10:  Transcriptome & Pathway Analyses of Trib1- and 3- Mouse Models of Immuno-Metabolic Disease

PhD position offered in a multidisciplinary research training program to uncover cellular control of immuno-metabolism

A PhD position (3 years fixed-term contract) is offered for a talented early stage researcher within the Tribbles Research and Innovation Network (TRAIN) funded by the EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN). The title of the PhD project is “Transcriptome & Pathway Analyses of Trib1- and 3- Mouse Models of Immuno-Metabolic Disease”. In this project, we aim to assess the gene expression consequences of loss of Treg-TRIB1/Foxp3 interaction on VAT adipocytes. The recruitment is to take place at Seqomics Biotechnology Ltd. (Szeged, Hungary) under the supervision of Istvan Nagy. The host institution is a biotech R&D organization offering genomic counselling, genomics services and bioinformatics analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.

The ideal candidate:

   - has working experience with analysis of high-throughput experimental data, preferably RNA-Seq
   - is familiar with pathway databases (e.g. Reactome, Ingenuity) and pathway analysis software
   - knows how to program in at least one scripting language (example Perl, Python, R)
   - able to work in Linux environment

Salary and allowances are calculated according to Marie Curie Innovative Training Networks guidelines.

- hold a Master’s degree in the field of Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences or Mathematics.
- must qualify as early stage scientist, i.e. have not spent more than 4 years undergoing full time research at the time of the recruitment
- have excellent English writing as well as speaking skills
- be willing to move to the host institution (Seqomics Ltd.) and join a 3-year PhD programme at the University of Szeged, Hungary
- be eligible to the mobility criteria, i.e. may not have resided or carried out main research activity in the country of the host organization (Hungary) for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to the appointment
- willing to take part in a 5-7 months secondment offered by a partner institute (Queen Mary University, London)
- be eager to learn new methodologies in the fields of Molecular Biology, Immunology and Bioinformatics
- send a detailed Curriculum Vitae
- provide two academic references
- indicate which project(s) they are applying for and indicate preference order if several choices
